Aircraft provided by debis AirFinance, Maintenance by Lufthansa Technik

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, the new European low-fare airline, today took official delivery of the company’s first A320 aircraft at the ILA air show in Berlin at the Lufthansa Technik hangar. The official hand over of the brightly colored aircraft, which will make its maiden flight from Katowice to London on 19th of May, was made by Klaus Heinemann, Chief Executive Officer of debis AirFinance, Europe’s largest aircraft leasing and asset management company. debis Air Finance provides the aircraft to Wizz Air on operating lease, with five more A320s to follow over the next two months.

The ceremony took place in the presence of August Wilhelm Henningsen, Chairman of the Executive Board, Lufthansa Technik AG, which will manage the transition of six aircraft for debis AirFinance during the next weeks at its facilities in Berlin-Schönefeld, Budapest and Shannon (Ireland). The fleet will be expanded by about 10 new aircraft each year. With 20 aircraft and 10 million offered seats, Wizz Air will become the largest operator in the region by end of 2005.

József Váradi said:

“We are delighted to take delivery of the first of our fleet, especially so in Berlin which holds a very special place in European history. The recent accession of ten more countries to the European Union owes a great deal to the tumultuous events that took place in Berlin in November 1989.”

“To be where we are today would not also have been possible without the backing of truly excellent business partners. We are now ready to take to the skies backed by an aircraft leasing deal with debis AirFinance and a full service maintenance contract with Lufthansa Technik. Both companies have gained recognition as being amongst the best in the world, and we look forward to developing further our business relationships with them. We have covered a great deal of ground in the 10 months since we had the idea to create a new low-fare airline. This A320 Airbus, the five more that are due for delivery and the planned additions to our fleet will see us cover even greater ground across Europe in the years ahead.”

August Wilhelm Henningsen said:

“We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to support Wizz Air in both the start-up phase and during its operations over the next five years. The growth in the low cost airline market is very strong, and Wizz Air has taken a prominent role. This is our first total support contract in this segment and we are looking forward to further develop our relationship with Wizz Air.”

“Lufthansa Technik has been cooperating with debis AirFinance for nearly two years not only on the transition of airplanes itself, but also on engines and components. debis AirFinance with its leading-reputation within the aviation industry is an important partner for Lufthansa Technik. With our focus high quality asset management services for leasing companies and banks we are very optimistic for the future development of this business.”

Klaus Heinemann said:

debis AirFinance’s cooperation with Wizz Air from the outset highlights our key role as partners in the development of new airlines with excellent growth potential and we look forward to expanding our relationship with Wizz Air through the delivery of more aircraft over the coming months.”

“The involvement of Lufthansa Technik as strategic partner in this deal will ensure that the aircraft will be serviced and maintained at the highest standards of the airline industry underlining Wizz Air’s commitment to quality.”

“Central and Eastern Europe has always been an important market for us and has now become even more important with the enlargement of the European Union by 70 million people.  As a low cost start-up airline Wizz Air is typical of the new breed of airlines that are increasingly driving debis AirFinance’s portfolio, we are delighted to share the opportunities which lie ahead with our new partner Wizz Air.”
