debis AirFinance Secures USD 840 Million ECA-Financing for up to Twenty New A320 Family Aircraft

debis AirFinance, one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing and asset management companies, announced it had signed a European Export Credit Agency facility of USD 840 million for up to twenty Airbus A320 family aircraft.  This is the first time that debis AirFinance has tapped the Export Credit Agency (ECA) market under its own name.

Funding under the facility, which has a term of up to twelve years, is supported by the ECGD, Coface and Hermes, the Export Credit Agencies of the UK, France and Germany respectively. The first aircraft financed under this facility, an Airbus A321-200, was delivered to its operator for active service on April 25, 2003.

With the completion of this transaction, debis AirFinance has secured funding for a substantial part of its forward order for 30 A320 family aircraft placed with Airbus in 1999. debis AirFinance’s approach to the funding of its fleet purchases also included the completion of the first ever Japanese Operating Lease (JOL) by an operating lessor.

Klaus Heinemann, Chief Executive Officer of debis AirFinance, said: “That we have completed these transactions within the international markets is a clear demonstration of the high regard in which debis AirFinance is held by international institutions and an endorsement of our funding strategy which has used ECA and JOL financing for the first time.”

Crédit Lyonnais acted as Overall Arranger/Agent and lead-managed the French and the British portion of the financing. KfW lead-managed the German portion of the financing.
