DevOps Engineer

Job summary

AerCap is the global leader in aircraft leasing and aviation finance headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer to join our IT team to operate and support the infrastructure and business applications that handles billions worth of transactions each year.

As a DevOps Engineer you’ll be a member of the team responsible for implementing Continuous Delivery and where relevant DevOps technology and practices to mature our service delivery capability.

The successful candidate will have a background in managing scalable, reliable Windows/Azure based environments. The candidate will be comfortable with Azure DevOps and with an Infrastructure as Code approach through tools like Ansible and Terraform.

Working closely with AerCap’s internal IT team, application vendors and retained outsourcing partners, you will play a pro-active role in the following areas:

  • Foster the adoption of continuous delivery and DevOps practices
  • Advocate for new tools and approaches to continually improve processes and outcomes
  • Implement and configure technology to support the Application Delivery Pipeline
  • Automate, automate and automate
  • Identify improvements in applications management to advance service delivery
  • Monitor critical business application services and the database estate

Essential functions

  • Work closely with our AerCap’s internal IT team, application vendors and retained outsourcing partners to optimise the deployment and management of new and existing infrastructure components and applications frequently and reliably across multiple environments, primarily Azure

  • Develop expert knowledge of our broader on premise and cloud technology estate, including networking infrastructure, load-balancing, firewalling and network segmentation and implement in-depth monitoring of all critical infrastructure and application services

  • Work with our existing toolset to actively monitor deployments and other critical BAU services/processes and assist with the troubleshooting on these

  • Identify redundant business processes and/or process optimization opportunities and implement automation to simplify the release management, reduce duplication of work and streamline operational processes

  • Demonstrate awareness of security issues and work closely with our operations team to ensure our systems remain safe and secure

  • Create and maintain technical documentation relating to your responsibilities

  • Provide training to AerCap’s Service Delivery team to support infrastructure and applications and thus drive operational improvements

  • Stay abreast of Azure developments to improve delivery quality, frequency and to lower costs

  • Perform ad-hoc Linux administration as necessary

Job requirements, qualifications, and competencies


  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in information systems support and operations preferably in an outsourced environment, 3+ years DevOps engineering experience desired
  • Very strong knowledge and experience of the Microsoft Azure technology stack
  • Demonstrated experience of automating application deployments and processes in complex 24/7 environments
  • Strong understanding of core IT security principles
  • Very good knowledge of ITIL
