Technical Manager

Job summary

Reporting to the Head of Technical Singapore, the Technical Manager will participate in the delivery and return of commercial jet aircraft to airlines throughout the world with focus on the Asia Pacific Region (APAC). The Technical Manager will work and travel together with a team of AerCap professionals to negotiate aircraft leases, sale agreements, and resolve technical issues that surface during the aircraft lease term, coordinate and oversee customer pre-delivery reconfiguration requirements while developing and enhancing relationships with airlines, MRO’s and suppliers internationally. 

To succeed, the incumbent must be detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and a strong communicator. 

Essential functions

Transaction support 

  • Draft lease return and delivery conditions and provide our legal department with side letter, lease extension and amendment language 

  • Negotiate maintenance reserve rates, maintenance, delivery and return condition provisions of leases with our lessees. In a professional and culturally sensitive manner addressing Lessee queries including reserve justification & commercial formula’s etc. 

  • Provide vital technical subject matter for the development of Letter of Intent (LOIs) and evaluate the LOI for any conflicts relating to aircraft configuration, operational capabilities or regulatory requirements which may cause added financial exposure to AerCap 

  • Evaluate the signed LOI to identify any modifications to the aircraft that may be required to meet our commercial or regulatory obligations 

  • Assist Leasing executives by providing reviewed and approved Aircraft Specification Sheets, advice on regulatory requirements, current aircraft status and anticipated aircraft status at time of delivery 

  • Monitor the asset throughout the lease term through active communication with the lessee and by ensuring required audits are accomplished 

  • Prepare and coordinate the pre-return meetings with the current lessee. Strive to ensure that lessee will be prepared to perform a smooth and on time return 

  • Coordinate all activities with the next customer to visit the aircraft. Ensure such activity takes place during a scheduled down-time to minimize disruption to our current Lessee 

  • Inspect Aircraft and documentation to determine compliance with the lease provisions and manage the entire Aircraft return and delivery process with our lessees 

  • Negotiate MRO agreements including commercial terms 

  • Effectively and efficiently manage our technical consultants & multiple projects at any given time 


  • Provide input on any technical issues or concerns during purchase agreement negotiations with manufacturers 

  • Advise Marketing, Legal and Contracts departments on a multitude of technical issues related to purchase, sale, and/or transfer of aircraft 

  • Take necessary steps to order engineering documentation and services, components, & kits required to retrofit the aircraft as needed, while ensuring that the services and equipment provided is done so with the least amount of financial exposure to AerCap while maintaining an on-time to delivery to the customer 

  • Field questions from all departments regarding technical issues and aircraft schedules 

  • Act as a clearing house for aircraft incidents, accidents, unscheduled damage and then distribute information on incidents throughout the company and assess the impact of such proposed repair schemes might have on the asset residual value 

  • Diligently review and approve Maintenance Reserve claims in a timely and professional manner 

  • Continuously provide input for our vanilla lease to ensure that all technical provisions are up to date and reflect best industry standards 

Job requirements, qualifications, and competencies  


  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering and/or Aircraft Maintenance Management 

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in the aviation technical field of which 7 years airline or leasing company experience directly related to the job function 

  • Exceptional organization and project management skills 


  • Strong and broad technical knowledge of various aircraft models, the systems and maintenance, aircraft records and Aviation Authority/ regulatory requirements with the ability to understand the details and judge the commercial impact 

  • Ability to draft, negotiate, interpret and apply complex legal language with respect to technical provisions of aircraft lease agreements 

  • Knowledge of aircraft maintenance programs, ability to measure the reasonableness of maintenance event costs

  • Proactively address problems and demonstrate proven problem-solving skills on technical matters 

  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English with a prerequisite for Mandarin as an additional language

  • Strong negotiating and lease drafting skills
