Job summary

AerCap is seeking a motivated individual to join its Legal Leasing team for the EMEA region as the Vice President, Legal Leasing.

The Legal department provides strategic advice and counsel to senior executives, the Board, and AerCap stakeholders on all legal issues, including commercial transactions, litigation, and regulatory matters. The role is responsible for structuring, drafting, negotiating, and executing of a wide range of transactional agreements in respect of AerCap’s customers in the EMEA region, including lease contracts, lease restructuring agreements, lease novations and assignments, and aircraft maintenance, and product support agreements. This position also manages litigation and contractual disputes, oversees outside counsel, and serves as a company advisor on compliance, regulatory matters, and legal issues. To succeed, the incumbent must be detail-oriented, highly organized, self-starting, and thrive in fast-paced environments.

Essential functions

  • 70-80% Transactional Agreements
    - Structure, negotiate, draft, and execute transactional agreements including transborder aircraft and engine lease contracts, lease restructuring agreements, lease novation’s and assignments, aircraft maintenance, and product support agreements, and all other day-to-day agreements
  • 20-30% Litigation and contractual disputes
    - Manage litigation and contractual disputes involving airline bankruptcies, equipment repossessions, and collection matters
    - Manage and coordinate the work of outside counsel in diverse foreign jurisdictions

  • 10-15% Advisory support
    Advise the company and its subsidiaries:
    - on compliance and regulatory matters, including FCPA and export controls
    - in all types of civil disputes with lessees, vendors, manufacturers, and other third parties
    - on legal issues incident to AerCap’s international aircraft finance business, including aviation, contractual, regulatory, compliance, and corporate governance matters

Job requirements, qualifications, and competencies  


  • At least 5 PQE years of legal leasing experience required
  • Blue chip education and experience preferred


  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient word processing skills
  • Advanced negotiation skills: can negotiate skillfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups
  • Able to translate legal issues and concepts into layman's terms
  • Comfortable in public speaking settings
  • Understands all major areas of aircraft leasing and sales (legal, regulatory, commercial, technical)
  • Recognizes the major players in the industry (lessors, airlines, maintenance providers) and understand their relationships

Other Information
